happy 16th birthday,
callum campbell

Here's a panel from an unpublished page titled
"Callum's Alan Moore anecdote."

The big 'Alec Omnibus' planned for next year will have at least fifteen pages of never before printed material, and there are the same number again of pages not in print since 1990. If all you've ever seen are the four books I published myself in 2000-2002, then there could be as many as ninety pages altogether that are new to you.

Now you'll have all of us clamouring to know what the anecdote was...
Best wishes to the birthday boy.

Garrgh! I have all the books, thanks to a now-defunct comic book shop on Bristol's Gloucester Road, but now I have to weigh up what to do to get hold of those extra fifteen pages. Oh well, that's how it works I guess.

Looking forward to Monsieur Leotard.

And I suppose you will already have seen this picture care of your usual supplier?

The geckos!

wasn't it around this time last year?

I've been thinking of restarting the gecko wars...

I know you missed those creatures, Nathalie.

You should see what they did to one of my favourite old books last week... dammit!

Will these 'new' pages in the Alec Omnibus include The Ace Rock'n'Roll Club and The Dead Muse or do I get to look forward to Alec stories that I've never heard of?

Aww, wee Cal. And it seems like only yesterday he was toddling through the front room and uttering 'We got Batman, Pete!'.

Happy Birthday Cal.

Hi Eddie,
that's funny, I was looking though my old fan press stuff this morning, like 'Zero-Zero' and the first issues of Escape that I used to get from the Fast Fiction table.

I found lots of little bits of your art all over the place. You certainly got in a lot of publications.

Is this a lot of the stuff that'll go in the new collection...?

I'm sure I'll get it anyway, it'll make me read them again and at time they were a big inspiration to my own work and very enjoyable.

It'll be nice to be inspired again.

Best regards, Del

Ben, Del, Bishop
that's the four books plus a big miscellaneous section. But I'm not throwing in just anything. I've tossed out some long standing material from the four books. No Ace club, but Muse should be in there. And the new stuff is all unseen as I'm only just now drawing it, either using old anecdotes that were never illustrated at the the time or finishing up stuff that was started and left incomplete when I closed down my monthy mag. For instance there's a two page piece that is all that remains of a ditched project titled Eddie Campbell's Big Book of Drunks, and a two page postscript to How to be an Artist using a crucial anecdote that didn't come my way until after that book was printed. etc. etc.

Nathalie
You'll have to wait. :)

But as I said above, If you've been following my work from the beginning, there will only be the trimmings (fifteen pages) and a two page typed commentary that are completely new. I feel that getting the omnibus together is a big project though as I have had to scan and prepare a digital file for every page and that has involved a lot of finicky work on the tones and fine details. The French editions of the books that are currently underway (two volumes out and the third in production) are getting first use of the digital files, and they look great there. Anything that needs attention I've gone back and tweaked.
